We created three different prototypes and models for the design of luxury apartments and hotel for a real estate client out of New York. The 3D models created a easily understood visual for the clients to understand the massing of the options
The two options on the left were developed with a the program rhino to create fluid free-flowing forms indictive of futuristic designs. The option on the right, which was eventually chosen by the client incorporates two interlocking arches
Street Level Design
One of the design challenges for the project was the restricting and awkward layout of the site. Located between two busy intersections, 5th Street and Lafayette Street, in a skewed diamond shape lot, the asymmetrical siteproved challenging for designers. The first goal was to continue the street and sidewalks and control the flow of pedestrian traffic while at the same time allocating appropriate areas for private and public spaces.

South Elevation with Final Concept

The design concept of the 5th & Lafayette Tower was quite simple. While the other two prototype towers employed complicated fluid facades which would have been expensive and complicated to build, the third option allowed for two simple interlocking arches with an interior void for restaurant spaces.

The tower is located on the same street that is tied to the history of the sit-ins during the civil rights movement. Led by Senator John Lewis, sit-ins which took place of 5th street set the stage for equal rights for all Americans. The owners of the facility have allocated space for a museum to honor the leaders of the Civil Rights movement and the history of the sit-in's within Nashville, TN.

Proximity and Relation to Other Towers
5th & Lafayette Tower is a substantial sized tower compared to other towers in this part of Downton Nashville, TN. This tower would serv as a catalyst for this portion of an underdeveloped downtown. Tax incentives were sought to construct this tower.

Facade Design and Elevations
While Rhino program was not used to employ the design of the form of the building, it was used to design the complex angled metal panels of the facade. The angled panels are design to mimic the speed of traffic of the surrounding busy streets, as well as function practical shade from the sun to prevent solar gain and block out utility rooms.
