Block 300 - Historic MLK District

The Tadley Building has been a edifice that was owned and operated by black entrepreneurs for nearly a century. The two-story edifice located on MLK Boulevard,(previously 9th Street) eventually came to Mona and Al, a second-generation restaurateur family who looked to renovate and improve  the dilapidated building.

“Tapley Buildings 1915” is a historic gem that reflects the architectural elegance of the early 20th century. This beautifully preserved structure combines classic design elements with modern functionality, creating a unique space that honors its rich heritage while serving contemporary needs. With its distinctive façade and timeless charm, the Tapley Buildings stand as a testament to enduring craftsmanship and community spirit.

Historic Tadley Building

The MLK Mixed-Use Development was part of a larger masterplan that sought to reimagine and revitalize the historic MLK Boulevard (previously 9th Street). This black business district was a bustling center of entrepreneurship before integration. Now dilapidated, many businesses are starting to surfaces including the Tadley building which reopened on its 100th year anniversary in 2015.

Interior Renovation of Building

HVAC Install

The entire building was gutted, painted and remediated to plan for the future of the incoming pub and brewery. The  micro-brewery would be one of several business to the 300 block.

Worker install brand new ducts needed to ventilate the micro-brewery. Expensive equipment was planned and coordinate into the building.

Garage Door install at Brewery

Hutton & Smith Brewery

The exterior wall was cut to allow for the installment of a new overhead garage door which would allow  free flow and connection o the street for pedestrians and patrons of the brewery. 

Hutton & Smith Micro-Brewery was planned and opened on 2017. The building serves craft beer and is a new business type to this part of the community.
