First Floor Plan
Tyrone Bunyon Jr. won a intercollege competition for rethinking how a simple ranch home could be reimagined as a contemporary residence prototype. Inspired by the vernacular 'foxtrot' homes found through Middle Tennessee, this humble abode was designed to bring the outdoors and nature into the home, including outdoor spaces that are view from the inside and natural materials which intermingle with the light throughout the day.
Materials and elements found in nature such as bark on a tree, peach pits, the texture of leaves and blades of grass were used as inspiration to inspire how materials and surfaces were used to intermingle and manipulate light within the home.

Basswood Model Displaying Structure
“The ranch house structure was designed with a simple post a beam frame. The intention was to display the simple elegance of the wood structure within the home. Unlike in traditional homes where the structure is hidden within the walls, the open floor plan allows for a light and airy residence with rustic wooden columns which add to the warmth and character of the space.
