Office Building of The Future
LEAP stands for Landscape, Engineering, Architecture and Planning. It is a prototype for a state of the art and forward thinking office building which prioritizes sustainable energy and collaboration. The chief priorities of the design was to create a facility that inspired collaboration amongst its office workers and to responsive to nature by minimizing its carbon footprint and bring nature, such as a water fountains in the first floor courtyard and raingardens on each floor to enhance mood, creativity and overall production.

North Elevation -Concept Sketch
This concept sketch was created to embrace the speed and excitement of the business district in Knoxville, TN. The minimal design embodies the spirit of contemporary design and allows for a simple strategy to allow for sustainable materials such as high efficiency glass, minimal thermal bridging and shallow floor plates.

Interior Courtyard - Concept Sketch
The interior courtyard is part of a clever strategic way to bring passersby, pedestrians ad family's to engage with the LEAP Office building at the street level. The splash park invites patrons into the building and into stores at the street level.

Interior Corridor - Concept Sketch
This concept sketch shows the shallow floor plate which allows for cross ventilation and helps to minimize the fossil fuels used to heat and cool the building. The shallow floor plate allows, along with deep overhangs, allow for the building to be shaded from he sun in the summer and fewer BTUS are needed to heat the building in the summer.

Sustainable Design
The design of efficient suitability strategies was a process of trial and error. Eventually the project would go on to receive honorable mention for LEED design strategies and score second in the inter-university AIA Design competition.
At the start, the entire aesthetic of the building was envisioned as being sleek, minimal and contemporary, a bleached-white edifice that pointed to the exciting innovative future the office building would use as an example of the innovative design it hoped to implement in the years to come. This issue was to maintain the sleek and elegant look while implementing sustainable design strategies. Sustainable and ecofriendly facades are notorious for being busy and filled with distracting shading devises. The architecture cleverly integrated balconies which doubled as shield against a solar heat gain, incorporate a shallow floor plate and planned for rain gardens at each floor of the building.
